Frequently Asked Questions

Q1.  Why do I need an immigration attorney?

A1. U.S. immigration law is extremely complex.  There are numerous laws, regulations, policies and memorandums that all impact on your ability to obtain the immigration outcome you desire.  If your situation is straightforward, an immigration attorney can help the process to go smoothly with no delays caused by filling out a form incorrectly or other errors which usually occur by those filing on their own.  A simple mistake can lead to adverse consequences ranging from delaying the time for approval to a denial of the petition or application.  An immigration attorney saves you the time and hassle of figuring out what you need to do and how to do it.  An immigration attorney can also spot potential trouble areas and proceed accordingly.  For those with more complicated situations (such as employment-based immigration, a criminal history, removal proceedings, etc.), a knowledgeable immigration attorney who is experienced and well-versed in the latest immigration developments is vital.

Q2.  Why should I hire you?

A2. I take pride in providing you with exceptional and professional service at an affordable cost.  You will have a level of responsiveness and personal service that you can not usually obtain at larger law firms. Because I am a sole practitioner, I will handle your case from start to finish.  Thus, from the time you have your initial consultation, you will know who is working for you.  When you have questions, you will get answers from me and the answers will usually be given on the same day.    Most importantly, I thoroughly understand the complex and nuanced immigration laws and how to apply them in your situation to achieve your goal.  As the son of an immigrant and with a wife who is an immigrant, I know firsthand how important your immigration experience is to your life.

Q3.  How much will it cost?

A3.  The cost varies depending on the type of case.  I charge a flat fee for all matters, so you will know the cost upfront.  Generally, there are three fees that make up the total cost – filing fee, attorney fee and courier fee.  The filing fee depends on the type of case.  For attorney fee, I charge a flat rate which varies depending on the type of case.  The courier fee covers the charge for mailing the petition, application or appeal.  In most cases, a payment plan is available if needed.

Q4.  Do I need a local immigration attorney?

A4.  You do not in most cases.  Because immigration law is federal, immigration attorneys can provide immigration representation to clients in all 50 states.  I provide immigration services to clients throughout the U.S. and the world, most of whom I have not met in person.
